Jessie Buchanan, RP
Registered Psychotherapist + Art Therapist
Welcome, I’m Jessie (she/her) — a therapist who values connection and authenticity in the therapeutic process. At the heart of my work is talk therapy; creating a space where you can speak openly, reflect deeply, and feel truly heard. Through conversation, we can explore what’s weighing on you, clarify what you want, and begin to make meaningful changes at your own pace. You don’t need to have the “right words” or a clear starting point. Just showing up as you are is enough.
For those who are interested, I also offer art therapy as a complementary approach. While talk therapy is central to our work, creative expression can sometimes help access thoughts and emotions that are harder to reach through words alone. Consider art therapy an added tool, to be used when it suits you.
I work with children (ages 8+), teens and adults, and am here to support you through grief and loss, anxiety, depression, low self esteem, trauma and various life transitions.
Outside of my practice, I’m a wife, a mother, and someone who enjoys jogging, camping, and attempting (with mixed results) to improve my baking. I’m also Indigenous and bring an awareness of the experiences and challenges that many First Nations individuals and communities face.
Like many people, I came to therapy at a time when I didn’t expect to need it. Taking that step felt significant, but it was also meaningful and worthwhile. Having been in the client’s seat myself, I understand how vulnerable it can feel—and I aim to offer a space where you can speak freely and feel at ease being yourself.
If you’re curious, we can explore what feels most helpful for you during a free 15-minute consultation.

Where Creativity Meets Healing
You don’t need any artistic experience to benefit from Art Therapy. Simple shapes, colours, or even abstract marks can be meaningful. And importantly, we’ll always stay grounded in conversation—reflecting together on whatever comes up, whether through words, images, or both.
Some things you might want to know:
-
Talk therapy will be our foundation, with the option to incorporate creative techniques as needed
-
You can choose the balance between talking and creating—this can shift from session to session or even within the same conversation.
-
There’s no pressure to use art at all; many clients prefer a fully verbal approach
-
Sessions are collaborative and paced according to your comfort—we might begin simply with conversation and build from there
-
Therapy is available for adults and children (ages 8+, both in person and virtual)
-
You don’t need to prepare anything in advance—just bring your thoughts, however unfinished they may feel
-
This is a non-judgmental space. Whether you express yourself through words, art, or both, there’s no expectation to explain or “perform”
-
It can also be really fun and playful! A great way to access and explore emotions in a safe and fun way, for children, teens and adults.
Alongside the benefits of talking things through, creative expression can sometimes support relaxation and emotional processing. Engaging the senses in a calm, supportive environment may help reduce stress and create a sense of clarity. For some, this combination of approaches can deepen the therapeutic experience—but it’s always your choice how we work together.
